Aamir Khan is back in the spotlight and, as always, he’s doing something different. After taking a short break following his last film Laal Singh Chaddha, the Bollywood superstar is preparing to make a big comeback with Sitaare Zameen Par. But this time, Aamir may not release his film in cinemas or even on OTT platforms like Netflix or Amazon Prime. Instead, he might try something completely new—a pay-per-view release on YouTube.

Aamir Khan’s New Release Strategy

According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, Aamir Khan is considering skipping both the big screen and OTT platforms for Sitaare Zameen Par. He is exploring the idea of releasing the movie directly on YouTube through a pay-per-view model. This means that viewers will have to pay a small fee to watch the film online, similar to how some international films are released digitally.

This move could change the way Bollywood movies are released. A source close to the project shared, “Aamir doesn’t want his films to go directly to streaming platforms after theatres. He feels that quick OTT releases stop people from going to cinemas to watch movies. That’s why there’s no streaming platform mentioned on the posters of Sitaare Zameen Par.”

Why Aamir Is Skipping Theatres and OTT

The film, directed by R.S. Prasanna (known for Shubh Mangal Saavdhan), was originally planned for a theatrical release. However, Aamir seems to be thinking carefully about the current trend in Bollywood, where serious, content-driven films often flop at the box office due to fast OTT releases.

By choosing the pay-per-view model, Aamir is trying to protect the value of his film and make sure audiences see it in a focused, paid environment—even if it’s not in theatres.

As of now, Sitaare Zameen Par is still officially set to release on June 20, 2025. But if Aamir moves forward with this new digital plan, fans might be watching it online instead of heading to the theatre.

Trailer Launch Postponed Due to National Issues

The trailer for Sitaare Zameen Par was supposed to drop on May 8, 2025, but it has been delayed. According to a Mid-Day report, Aamir and the film’s team decided to postpone the trailer launch because of increasing tensions at the country’s borders.

A source explained, “With the current situation at the borders and the nationwide alert, Aamir felt it was better to delay the trailer. He wants to show respect for our soldiers and believes in unity and patience during such times.”

What the Movie Is About

Sitaare Zameen Par is being called a spiritual sequel to Aamir’s much-loved 2007 film Taare Zameen Par. This time, the story is inspired by the Spanish sports comedy Campeones. The film stars Genelia D’Souza Deshmukh and Darsheel Safary and focuses on an emotional and inspiring journey involving children with special needs.

With Aamir Khan taking such a bold step in distribution, all eyes are on Sitaare Zameen Par. Will this new model work? Only time will tell, but one thing is clear—Aamir is once again setting trends, not following them.
