The official trailer for Materialists is finally here, and it brings all the drama, romance, and emotional depth we hoped for. Starring Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans, and Pedro Pascal, the film is directed by Celine Song, who previously wowed audiences with her Oscar-nominated film Past Lives.
Set in the heart of New York City, Materialists follows the story of Lucy, a talented matchmaker who helps others find love but struggles to figure out her own heart. Lucy, played by Dakota Johnson, seems to have it all together when it comes to making romantic matches for others. But when it comes to her own relationships, things get complicated.
The trailer starts with a voiceover saying, “In the world of matchmaking, no one plays the game better than Lucy.” We see quick scenes of her successful matchmaking work and happy couples she’s brought together. But things soon take a turn when we see Lucy having a heated argument with her boyfriend John, played by Chris Evans. He confronts her, saying, “Do you know how hard it is to make you happy?” as Lucy looks heartbroken in the middle of a busy New York street.
Then enters Pedro Pascal as Henry Castillo. Lucy meets Henry at a party, and he seems like the perfect man. They quickly build a connection, but Lucy warns him not to date her unless he’s serious. “I want to marry the next guy I date,” she tells him. Even though Henry appears to be everything Lucy wants, she finds herself constantly pulled back toward her complicated past with John.
The trailer teases a powerful love triangle, full of real emotions and relatable struggles. Lucy must choose between a picture-perfect future and the messy, unresolved past. It’s a story about love, timing, and learning what really matters.
Materialists isn’t just another romantic drama—it offers a fresh and emotional take on modern love. Director Celine Song brings her unique style and storytelling talent to this film, just like she did in Past Lives, which received critical acclaim and multiple award nominations.
Alongside the main trio, the film also features Zoe Winters, Marin Ireland, Dasha Nekrasova, Louisa Jacobson, and Sawyer Spielberg in supporting roles.
Fans of romantic dramas and emotional storytelling won’t want to miss this one. With an incredible cast, a meaningful plot, and a backdrop of New York City, Materialists is set to become one of the most talked-about films of the year.
Release Date in India: Materialists will hit Indian theatres on June 13, 2025.
