Naslen’s latest Malayalam sports comedy Alappuzha Gymkhana is doing surprisingly well at the box office. The film, directed by Khalid Rahman, has managed to beat Sunny Deol’s big-budget action film Jaat in daily earnings on its fourth Sunday, which was May 4. Even though both movies were released on the same day and were not in direct competition, the clash still drew comparisons — and the Malayalam film is making headlines.

Jaat Still Ahead in Total Collection

When it comes to total box office collections, Sunny Deol’s Jaat is clearly ahead. The film has earned ₹89.06 crore in India so far. On the other hand, Alappuzha Gymkhana has made ₹43.63 crore in India and ₹71.8 crore worldwide. That means Jaat has earned about 103% more than Naslen’s film in India.

However, the real twist is in the profit game.

Alappuzha Gymkhana Wins Big in Profits

Despite earning less overall, Alappuzha Gymkhana is a clear winner in terms of profit. The film was made on a modest budget of ₹12 crore. With its Indian box office total at ₹43.63 crore, it has earned a profit of around 260%! That’s a massive success for a regional film.

In comparison, Jaat reportedly had a production budget of ₹100 crore. Even though it has earned ₹89.06 crore, it still hasn’t recovered its full budget. So, while it looks like Jaat is doing better based on total collections, it is still not a profitable film — at least not yet.

Fourth Sunday Box Office – May 4 Collection

On the 25th day, which was the fourth Sunday after release, Alappuzha Gymkhana collected ₹34 lakh at the box office. In contrast, Jaat only managed ₹22 lakh — and that too on a weekend. This shows how strong word-of-mouth and a good story can help a smaller film outperform a big-budget movie, even weeks after release.

What Are the Films About?

Alappuzha Gymkhana is a light-hearted sports comedy. The story follows a group of students who fail their exams but try to get into college using the sports quota. They choose boxing to qualify and manage to win some district-level matches. But things get tough as they face stronger opponents in higher-level competitions.

Meanwhile, Jaat is an action-packed Hindi film starring Sunny Deol. The story revolves around a top Indian government agent who is sent to Sri Lanka to take down a deadly terrorist. The movie has a 6.6 rating on IMDb and is full of thrilling moments.

Final Thoughts

In the end, Alappuzha Gymkhana proves that success at the box office isn’t just about big stars or massive budgets. A good story, solid performances, and smart budgeting can go a long way. Naslen’s film is winning hearts and profits, while Jaat still struggles to cover its costs — despite earning more in total.
