Bollywood actress Kalki Koechlin and filmmaker Anurag Kashyap were once one of the most talked-about couples. They tied the knot in 2011 but sadly parted ways in 2015. Their love story began on the sets of Dev D in 2008, where Kalki made her Bollywood debut opposite Abhay Deol.
Recently, Kalki opened up about the difficult phase she went through after her separation from Anurag. In a heartfelt interview with Puja Talwar, the actress shared that the initial years after the divorce were quite painful. She said,
“It takes time. There is no denying that in the first few years after our divorce, we couldn’t be the kind of friends that we are today. We needed that separate time because it hurts to know about the other person’s relationship and things like that. So, of course, we took that time. I definitely took a lot of therapy, and now it’s been seven or eight years. It’s been a long, long time, so it’s fine, it’s great, and we get along, as friends.”
Kalki’s honest words show how healing after a breakup takes patience and effort. She highlighted the importance of giving each other space and seeking therapy to heal emotionally.
In an earlier conversation with India Today (as reported by NDTV), Kalki also mentioned that her relationship with Anurag Kashyap is now peaceful. She said,
“I’m very much at ease now. We’ve been through so much together, and so much apart. We’ve reached a place of peace between us. He wasn’t involved in this film (Goldfish) till it was screened at the Busan International Film Festival. He saw the film in Busan, loved it, and was really supportive about it. And we’re really glad to have him on board. So yeah, we’re good now.”
This shows that despite their past, Kalki and Anurag have managed to build a healthy friendship today. They support each other professionally and personally without any bitterness.
Kalki was also seen attending Anurag’s daughter Aaliyah Kashyap’s wedding. Talking about their sweet bond, Kalki said,
“Aaliyah is very cute with my daughter. They really have a kind of playful thing. So basically, my daughter thinks Aaliyah is the real princess. So she’s in awe of her. It’s good to have one more babysitter around.”
This heartwarming comment shows how their families have blended in a beautiful way, maintaining love and respect beyond broken relationships.
For those who don’t know, even after parting ways, Kalki and Anurag continued to collaborate professionally. They worked together on the 2011 film That Girl in Yellow Boots and later reunited for Netflix’s Sacred Games Season 2. Despite their personal differences, they have always maintained a cordial and supportive relationship.
Kalki’s journey reminds us that even after a tough breakup, healing is possible with time, therapy, and mutual respect. She sets an inspiring example of moving on with grace and building healthy bonds with former partners.
