The Malayalam box office has welcomed a new hit! Basil Joseph’s latest comedy film, Maranamass, has turned into a success, earning a total of ₹17.05 crore in just 13 days. With strong word-of-mouth and steady audience support, the movie is now inching closer to the ₹20 crore mark.
Basil Joseph Beats His Own Record!
Maranamass has now become the highest-grossing film in Basil Joseph’s career. His previous superhit, Ponman, had earned ₹10.15 crore at the box office. That film made a massive profit of 235%. But now, Maranamass has outdone it in style!
In only 13 days, the comedy entertainer has collected 67.8% more than Ponman. That’s a huge jump and shows how much audiences are enjoying Basil’s new release.

Even though the movie saw a 10% drop on day 13, falling from ₹73 lakh to ₹65 lakh, the film has already achieved a solid profit. Made on a budget of ₹8 crore, Maranamass has delivered a return of 113.2% so far!
Can Maranamass Beat the Competition?
While Maranamass is a box office winner, it still lags behind its main competitor, Alappuzha Gymkhana, starring Naslen. Both films were released on the same day, but Naslen’s movie has raced ahead in terms of profits.
To match Alappuzha Gymkhana, Maranamass needs to reach a total of ₹23 crore. That’s ₹6 crore more than its current collection. Looking at the current pace, it seems unlikely that Basil’s film will reach that number. However, a final total around ₹20 crore is very much possible—and still a big success!
