Before the Avengers came together or the multiverse cracked open, there were the X-Men — a group of mutants in leather suits dealing with powers, pain, and a whole lot of drama. Back in 2000, X-Men helped create the superhero movie formula we now see everywhere. It was the start of something big, long before superheroes became box office kings.

Over the years, the X-Men movies gave fans everything from time travel and mind control to giant robot battles and Wolverine’s never-ending growls. Some films like Days of Future Past were truly amazing, while others like Dark Phoenix didn’t hit the mark. Still, this series stayed popular for over two decades, thanks to its unique characters and strong performances.

And just when it felt like the X-Men were running out of steam, Deadpool & Wolverine arrived like a wild, hilarious storm. Starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, this R-rated adventure brought back two fan favorites in a chaotic, multiverse-hopping ride that broke all kinds of records — and possibly the internet.

Deadpool & Wolverine Joins the $1 Billion Club

Deadpool & Wolverine didn’t just perform well at the box office — it smashed expectations. According to Box Office Mojo, the movie made over $1.3 billion worldwide, making it the first X-Men film ever to pass the billion-dollar mark.

So, what made it such a big hit? For starters, fans had been waiting for years to see Reynolds’ Deadpool and Jackman’s Wolverine team up properly. Their on-screen chemistry, mixed with fast jokes, wild action scenes, and surprise cameos, made the movie a must-watch more than once.

It also gave long-time fans of the Fox X-Men universe a proper send-off — full of humor, heart, and chaos. For Marvel Studios, this was a much-needed win after a few underwhelming box office results in recent years. And with major MCU films like Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars on the way, Deadpool & Wolverine might be the boost the franchise needed to regain its blockbuster magic.

The Second Highest X-Men Movie? Deadpool 2

Before Deadpool & Wolverine took the top spot, Deadpool 2 was the highest-earning film in the X-Men series. Released in 2018, it earned $785.9 million globally, just a bit more than the first Deadpool movie. It introduced new characters like Cable and Domino, and gave us one of the funniest and saddest superhero team scenes ever (RIP Peter).

It had a huge $300.4 million global opening and even beat Avengers: Infinity War at the box office during its release weekend — a surprising win. In the U.S., it sold 5.8 million tickets on day one. It also broke records for an R-rated film in over 80 countries.

Even in China, where R-rated films are usually blocked, a special PG-13 version called Once Upon a Deadpool was released, helping boost the movie’s total earnings.

Final Thoughts

With Deadpool & Wolverine now leading the pack, it’s clear that fans love these wild, witty, and R-rated adventures. The X-Men franchise may have had its ups and downs, but thanks to Deadpool’s wild ride and Wolverine’s return, the mutants are back in a big way — and bigger than ever at the box office.
