In 2011, Delhi Belly surprised everyone with its bold dialogues, wild humor, and completely different storytelling style. Produced by Aamir Khan and starring his nephew Imran Khan, the film was full of adult jokes and strong language—something not often seen in Indian cinema at the time.
But did you know that even the legendary Amitabh Bachchan was shocked by Delhi Belly‘s first teaser?
Amitabh Bachchan Wasn’t Sure About the Teaser
In a recent video from Aamir Khan Talkies, Aamir shared an interesting behind-the-scenes story. He had asked Amitabh Bachchan to lend his voice for the teaser of Delhi Belly. But when Big B read the lines, he was clearly unsure about it.
“I asked Amit ji to dub for the teaser,” Aamir said. “He read the lines and gave me a look—like, ‘Hmm, okay…’ After watching it, he asked me, ‘Aamir, are you sure this is alright?’ I told him, ‘Yes sir, no worries.’ As always, his voiceover was amazing and full of emotion.”
Even though Mr. Bachchan had doubts, he went ahead and dubbed for the teaser. His voice added a strong impact to the teaser, but Aamir knew that the audience might not take it well.
First Teaser Didn’t Go Well With the Audience
When the first teaser was released, many people didn’t understand what the film was trying to say. It seemed too self-promotional and confusing. The bold language and unique style made it difficult for the audience to connect with it.
Aamir quickly realized that something wasn’t working.
He said, “The response was really poor. People thought we were just praising ourselves. So, I asked the team to take down that teaser and create a new one.”
Aamir Khan Wanted to Be Honest With the Audience
Aamir explained why it was important to change the teaser. He said, “I was very worried. I never want to mislead or disappoint my audience. I always want them to know what they’re getting into. That’s why we created a new teaser—one that clearly showed the film’s adult content but also its funny and quirky side.”
Second Teaser Was a Hit, and the Film Became a Cult Classic
The new teaser worked much better. It gave the audience a better idea of what to expect—strong language, dark humor, and a crazy storyline. People began to understand that Delhi Belly was not a regular Bollywood film.
Eventually, Delhi Belly became a cult classic. Its unique style, daring script, and bold comedy won over fans. Today, it’s remembered as one of the most unusual and path-breaking films in Indian cinema.
Thanks to Aamir Khan’s confidence and quick thinking, and despite early doubts from even icons like Amitabh Bachchan, Delhi Belly made its mark in Bollywood history.
