Ben Affleck is back as Christian Wolff in The Accountant 2, the much-anticipated sequel to the 2016 action thriller The Accountant. The new film is all set to hit theaters on April 25, and early signs suggest it could be a big success at the box office.

After years of fan speculation and hints, the sequel was officially confirmed. Ben Affleck, who played the lead role in the original movie, recently confirmed that The Accountant 2 was in development. The long-range U.S. box office forecast has now been revealed, and things are looking positive for the film’s opening weekend.

The original movie, The Accountant, was directed by Gavin O’Connor and written by Bill Dubuque. It had a modest budget of $44 million but turned out to be a big success, earning over $155.56 million worldwide. In the film, Ben Affleck played an autistic CPA who gets involved in dangerous criminal activity. His performance was praised by some critics, while others had mixed feelings. The movie got a 53% critic score and a 77% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Now, The Accountant 2 is aiming to top the success of the first film. It recently premiered at the South by Southwest (SXSW) Festival, where it received a lot of positive feedback. Over 30 critics have already reviewed the movie, giving it a strong 84% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics especially enjoyed the chemistry between Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal, calling it a fun and thrilling experience.

The sequel once again brings back the original cast, including Ben Affleck, Jon Bernthal, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, and J.K. Simmons. According to the film’s official synopsis, the story picks up with Treasury Agent Marybeth Medina reaching out to Christian Wolff for help after someone close to her is murdered by unknown assassins. Chris joins forces with his estranged brother Brax, and together, they use their unique skills to uncover the truth. But as they get closer to solving the mystery, they are targeted by powerful enemies who will stop at nothing to keep their secrets hidden.

Box Office Pro has shared its forecast for the opening weekend of The Accountant 2. The film is expected to earn between $30 million and $40 million in the U.S. during its debut weekend. This is a big step up from the original movie, which opened with $24.71 million in 2016.

The first film ended its domestic run with $86.26 million, and added another $69.30 million from international markets, making it a global hit. If the early buzz and strong reviews for The Accountant 2 hold up, the sequel could easily surpass those numbers.

With action, mystery, and strong performances, The Accountant 2 is shaping up to be one of the most exciting releases of April. Don’t miss its theatrical debut on April 25.
