Malayalam cinema fans are in for a big treat! The legendary on-screen pair of Mohanlal and Shobana is reuniting in an upcoming Malayalam movie titled Thudarum, which is all set for a theatrical release on April 25, 2025. This marks a nostalgic and exciting moment for movie lovers, especially those who grew up watching this iconic duo in classic hits.
The announcement was made by Mohanlal himself on his official social media accounts, instantly creating a buzz among fans. The excitement is understandable—Mohanlal and Shobana’s chemistry has been a winning formula at the box office for decades, and their return together is highly anticipated.
What makes Thudarum even more interesting is its release date. The film is coming out less than a month after the much-talked-about blockbuster L2: Empuraan, which also stars Mohanlal and released on March 27, 2025. With back-to-back releases, 2025 is turning out to be a great year for Mohanlal fans.
Originally, Thudarum was expected to hit theatres on January 30, 2025. However, that didn’t happen, leading to a lot of speculation online. Many believed that the release was postponed because the producers couldn’t find a streaming platform deal that matched their expectations.
But in a recent interview with OTTPlay, director Tharun Moorthy clarified that the January release date was never officially confirmed by the filmmakers. Instead, it was mentioned by the film’s distributor, Aashirvad Cinemas, during a public event while showcasing their upcoming projects. Tharun also added that Thudarum was always intended to be a theatrical experience, which is why they focused on a proper big-screen release.
Thudarum is Tharun Moorthy’s third directorial venture and comes with high expectations. He co-wrote the screenplay along with K.R. Sunil, promising a film that blends strong storytelling with powerful performances. The movie also boasts a talented supporting cast including Arjun Ashokan, Thomas Mathew, Maniyanpilla Raju, Abin Bino, Binu Pappu, and Farhaan Faasil.
The film’s cinematography is handled by Shaji Kumar, while Jakes Bejoy takes charge of the music, adding more depth to the emotional and dramatic elements of the movie. M. Renjith produces Thudarum under the banner of Rejaputhra Visual Media, a name known for delivering quality films.
With everything lined up—an iconic lead pair, a solid team behind the scenes, and a theatrical release date now set—Thudarum is one of the most awaited Malayalam movies of 2025. Fans of Mohanlal, Shobana, and Malayalam cinema in general can now officially start counting down the days.
