Rachel Zegler, who stars as the lead in Disney’s live-action Snow White, has been at the center of controversy lately. Before the movie even hit theaters, many of her social media posts sparked backlash from fans and followers. But despite the online drama and strong criticism, Snow White has managed to reach a major milestone at the box office.
Released on March 21 and directed by Marc Webb, Snow White had a rough start. The film received a flood of 1-star ratings on IMDb, forcing the platform to step in. IMDb issued a special disclaimer, warning users about “unusual voting activity.” This move was made to fight against what’s called “review bombing” — when people leave negative reviews in large numbers for reasons unrelated to the actual movie quality.
Currently, Snow White has a 1.6 user rating on IMDb, one of the lowest scores ever for a major Disney release. However, this hasn’t stopped the film from making its mark globally. As of now, the movie has earned $145.66 million worldwide, which makes it Rachel Zegler’s second highest-grossing film.
Let’s take a look at how Zegler’s movies compare at the box office:
- The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes – $348.9 million
- Snow White – $145.66 million
- Shazam! Fury of the Gods – $134.13 million
Although Snow White has not received strong reviews and is struggling at the U.S. box office, it has still performed better than Shazam 2, which was also a box office disappointment. That DC film brought in just $134.13 million globally.
In the U.S., Snow White has made $69.8 million so far and is expected to finish its domestic run with somewhere between $90 million to $100 million. This is quite low compared to its massive $250 million production budget. On its second Tuesday in theaters, the film earned just $1.5 million, marking the lowest second Tuesday ever for a Disney live-action remake. That day also showed a steep 61.4% drop in revenue compared to the previous Tuesday.
Internationally, Snow White earned $75.82 million, which helped push the worldwide total past Shazam 2.
While it’s clear that Snow White isn’t a major box office hit by Disney standards, the film’s performance still marks an important achievement for Zegler. With all the negative press, low ratings, and strong competition, crossing the $145 million mark globally is no small feat. It also proves that audiences outside the U.S. are still showing interest in the film, even if the domestic numbers aren’t strong.
Zegler, who rose to fame with West Side Story, now has three major studio releases under her belt — The Hunger Games, Shazam 2, and Snow White. Despite the setbacks, her growing resume shows she’s staying in the spotlight, and her career is continuing to gain momentum.
Whether Snow White can recover its high production costs remains to be seen, but it has already helped Zegler hit a new milestone, earning her the title of second-highest-grossing film in her career so far.
