Bollywood actor Emraan Hashmi has given his fans a huge surprise on his birthday by officially announcing the sequel to his 2007 cult film, Awarapan. After years of speculation, the actor confirmed that Awarapan 2 is happening, and it will hit theatres on April 3, 2026. The announcement was made on his 46th birthday, creating excitement among his followers.
Awarapan 2 Release Date and Announcement
Emraan Hashmi took to social media to share the big news. Posting a throwback promo from Awarapan, he wrote, “Bas mujhe kuch aur der zinda rakh #Awarapan2 in cinemas, 3rd April 2026.” The video featured his iconic character from the movie, standing on a boat and looking at the sun, hinting at the emotional depth of the upcoming sequel.
The sequel, Awarapan 2, is directed by Nitin Kakkar and produced by Vishesh Bhatt. The original Awarapan was directed by Mohit Suri and produced by Mukesh Bhatt under Vishesh Films. The 2007 film, although not a massive box office success at the time, has gained a cult following over the years, making the sequel one of the most awaited Bollywood films.
Awarapan – A Cult Classic Over the Years
The original Awarapan starred Emraan Hashmi, Shriya Saran, Mrinalini Sharma, and Ashutosh Rana in key roles. It followed the story of Shivam (played by Emraan Hashmi), a hitman working for a ruthless gangster, Malik (Ashutosh Rana). His life takes a turn when he is assigned to watch over Malik’s mistress, Reema (Mrinalini Sharma), and discovers her desire for freedom and love. The movie was inspired by the South Korean film A Bittersweet Life.
While Awarapan did not perform exceptionally well at the box office in 2007, it has since gained immense popularity, with fans still cherishing its songs, storyline, and Emraan’s powerful performance. The movie’s songs, including Toh Phir Aao and Tera Mera Rishta, are still fan favorites.
Growing Demand for Awarapan and Jannat Re-Release
Recently, there has been a rising demand for the re-release of Awarapan and another Emraan Hashmi hit, Jannat. Speaking about this, producer Mukesh Bhatt told News18 Showsha, “I have been hearing about this from everywhere! The demand is strong, and I will discuss it with my team before making a decision.”
Emraan Hashmi also acknowledged the film’s unexpected rise to cult status, saying, “It wasn’t a big success in 2007, but today, it’s my most loved film. Over 20 years, it has gained immense respect. This proves that movies can find their audience over time.”
