Netflix continues its winning streak in 2025 with yet another gripping web series, Dabba Cartel. Plot Overview

Dabba Cartel revolves around five women navigating life’s struggles while finding an unconventional way to survive—by running a secret drug business under the guise of a homemade tiffin service. Unlike traditional crime dramas centered around male-dominated cartels, this series offers a fresh take with saree-clad women running an underground empire.

Shalini Pandey’s character owns a dabba kitchen with her house help-turned-business partner, played by Nimisha Sajayan. Their small-scale food business takes a drastic turn when Shabana Azmi’s character steps in, leading them into the world of drug dealing. Jyothika and Anjali Anand’s characters are unwillingly dragged into this scheme due to unforeseen circumstances. However, as the series progresses, these women embrace their new roles—except for one, who remains hesitant to continue in the dark world.

Meanwhile, a parallel storyline unfolds, focusing on a pharmaceutical company, VivaLife, which is under investigation for manufacturing and illegally distributing banned drugs. Gajraj Rao, playing a narcotics officer, joins forces with a determined local cop, played by Sai Tamhankar, to expose the scam. As the plot unfolds, the two storylines intersect in an intriguing manner, making Dabba Cartel a fast-paced and engaging watch.

What Works in Dabba Cartel

  • Strong Writing & Execution: The series doesn’t rely on forced twists and turns. Instead, it builds its narrative organically, focusing on character development and relationships rather than unnecessary shock value.
  • Refreshing Take on Drug Cartels: Unlike typical crime series that depict women in stereotypical roles, Dabba Cartel flips the narrative. Here, the protagonists are everyday women, managing a high-stakes drug operation while balancing their personal struggles.
  • Balanced Performances: Each character has a significant role and equal screen presence. While Shabana Azmi leads the group, every actor gets their moment to shine. Shalini Pandey, Nimisha Sajayan, Anjali Anand, and Jyothika all deliver stellar performances. Even the male actors, including Gajraj Rao and Jisshu Sengupta, play their parts effectively.

What Doesn’t Work

One noticeable flaw is the lack of police intervention. Despite running an extensive drug operation, the protagonists face little resistance from law enforcement, which seems unrealistic. However, given the storytelling approach, this creative liberty can be overlooked.

Final Verdict

Dabba Cartel is an engaging and well-executed crime drama that offers a unique perspective on the drug trade. The strong character arcs, emotional depth, and a fast-paced storyline make it a must-watch. The climax introduces an unexpected twist, leaving viewers eager for a second season. If you love crime dramas with compelling female leads, this series is worth binge-watching!
